Large Town Garden, Melrose
A large town garden situated at the foot of the Eildon Hills in the Tweed valley.
An impressive private residence set within a large garden acreage with mature specimen trees, orchard, and formal lawn terraces.
In this extensive brief I have worked with the clients to create a new landscape to the front and rear of the property. The ‘Garden of Apollo’ – a former dilapidated tennis court – to the south of the property; features a long formal walk of porcelain stone with structural box and ewe topiary, large mixed borders and intimate seating areas. To the east, the garden is connected with a woodland edge planting scheme, including many focal multi-stem shrubs and trees, and sunken to provide a central seating area with greater intimacy and much needed shelter.
Other highlights include, the ornamental vegetable garden, orchard and wild garden where a newly formed meadow has been planted with a select mix of native deciduous trees.
“In three years, Duncan has transformed our 1.5 acre garden into a place full of character, charm and depth. He has created imaginative spaces with clever landscaping, planting and seating so we can love and live our garden.”
